Application-specific fasteners

Our experienced application engineers will be at hand to provide you with expert advice starting from the development phase. We work with your technicians and engineers to adapt the size, material, surface and function of the fasteners to suit your specific application requirements. The basic features of a standardised blind rivet are defined by various DIN EN ISO standards, including the geometrical

dimensions and mechanical properties. Further aspects of the fasteners, such as the material and surface coating, are set out in very general terms by the standards, leaving the ultimate choices in the hands of the manufacturer. These specifications for blind rivet features really narrow down the tolerances of connection parameters and the requirements that can be met. DIN EN ISO blind rivets are always designed for fixed components.

Beyond DIN EN ISO standardised rivets

By specifying the materials, surfaces, geometrical dimensions and, most importantly, functional properties, application-specific fasteners can be adapted to address more exacting requirements and used for a much wider range of tasks. By way of example, the following customer requirements can be met as a result:

  • Elimination of access issues relating to rivet positioning
  • Modification in line with corrosion requirements and thus increased resistance to environmental influences
  • Creation of splash waterproof connections without having to compromise on good mechanical properties
  • Compensation for major fluctuations in component parameters
  • Adjustment of mechanical connection properties in line with widely varying joining materials

Typical requirements for an application-specific joining element

Customer requirement GESIPA® solution
Modification for use with rubber, wood, plastic and other materials Specification of the max./min. tightening value/clamping force
Watertightness Material + design + coating
Access issues Extended nosepieces plus increased length of mandrel body
Resistance to corrosion Organic and inorganic surface coatings such as Zn, ZnNi, Delta Seal or combination of materials with A2 and A4 stainless steel or Monel®
No noise Monitored mandrel body catch
Tolerance compensation Borehole diameter greater than DIN
High tool and system availability Tool and joining element perfectly coordinated with one another, overall GESIPA® system
